Jerod Mayo breaks silence on Tom Brady’s potential comeback to the Patriots amid various rumors
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Brady recently made fans ponder as he revealed he is not completely opposed to the idea of making a return to the NFL. It was hard to determine if he said this in jest or was serious about it because, in the past, Brady has unretired and come back.

However, this time, the greatest quarterback of all time was speaking about a situation wherein an NFL team lost its QB to injury mid-season and his willingness to step-in and take over in those circumstances. Brady was open to coming in and playing for the New England Patriots and the Las Vegas Raiders, the former being a team he has played for the majority of his career and the latter being a team he owns a partial stake in.

Jerod Mayo, the head coach of the Patriots, responded to Brady’s reaction on The Greg Hill Show.

I love Tom, and the door is always open if he wants to come in here and coach. But as far as going on the field, I don't know. But if he comes in here, once again, going back to the 'hey, the best player will play,' you've gotta come in here and compete, and he loves competition. I doubt he's gonna be walking through these doors anytime soon . Jerod Mayo said

With Brady, you really cannot tell.

Tom Brady will continue to believe he can play until he turns 50

Jerod Mayo made it clear that if Tom Brady expresses an intent to take over a coaching role with the Patriots, it will be his. However, if he is looking for a spot on the team’s roster, then things will get a bit tricky. After all, the team just drafted Drake Maye , the QB room is not as bad as it was last season.

Jerod Mayo made it clear that even if Tom Brady does happen to come through those doors seeking another chance to play quarterback, he will need to compete for the job and earn it, nothing will be given. Tom Brady has continued to stay in shape despite retiring from the NFL, his source of inspiration continues to be a hypothetical situation wherein he gets a call from an NFL team to come in and take over on short notice.

Brady will take over the job at FOX Sports this season in the capacity of a broadcaster. He has previously made his intent to play until the age of 50 clear, presently, he is 46 years. This means that the QB will keep hinting at a return for the next 4-years. Knowing him, there is no denying that he could make a comeback and play once again.
